Reading Don C. Benjamin’s excellent analysis of ancient Israel from the time of the Judges though the Prophets, the book entitled Social World of Ancient Israel 1250-587 B.C., the author elaborates on the climatic disaster which befell the Levant ending the so-called bronze age, when the Hebrews moved in, settling in the highlands of Judea, while below on the plains, the big canaanite cities were drying up, their rain-watered fields already turning to desert when the Hebrews under Joshua arrived from the east, having come north out of Egypt behind the great Moses circa 1450 b.c.

Benjamin is a darwinist, and so has no clue that the climate change (the cause upon which he doesn’t dare opine) was actually the end of the Ice Age, when the sea level rose to consume the canaanite port cities along the coast, ruins of which, such as Yarmuta and Old Sidon, are now found submerged offshore, along with ruins of hundreds of other coastal cities in various parts of the world, for instance off Egypt and India, submerged when Moses came out of Egypt, certainly a time of judgment and confusion.
