People think that Plato just dreamed up the Atlantis story, name and all, but of course Plato recorded the story told to him by Critias and Timaeus, that story originally from the Egyptian priests at Sais told to the greek king Solon circa 600 b.c., yet the Atlantes people of the Atlas mountain region were known to Herodotus, who preceded Plato, so the Greeks knew about Atlantis before Plato told the story.
And that’s no surprise, for they had been navigating the oceans of the world since 2200 b.c., and after all, Atlas had always been the only name for those mountains of Morocco, the namesake of Atlantis, and such as the Berbers trace their roots to that kingdom, certainly not announced to them by the Egyptian priests at Sais! See how those ancients navigated http://genesisveracityfoundation.com/earth-measure-geometry.
A short distance from Morocco is Sicily, home of Diodorus Sicilus who also wrote about the Atlantes of northwest Africa, no doubt having learned the name from those nearby Atlantes, and probably privy to what Herodotus and Plato had written as well, but still odd is that none of them pieced together that the flood of Ogyges of greek legend was also the flood of Atlantis, Ogyges who lived circa 1500 b.c., which explains the bronze age ships and weaponry of the Atlanteans.

September 8, 2012Because the legendary ancient homeland of the Mexicans, the lost kingdom of Atlan, is of the same word root as Atlantic and Atlas (the Atlas mountains of Morocco), there’s confirmation that Atlantis was real, the ancient Mexicans having “come across the eastern ocean from Atlan,” the timing of that certainly with the civilization of the Olmecs, who seem to have been a people with founders from both the Atlantic and the Pacific by the method explained here http://genesisveracityfoundation.com/earth-measure-geometry/.
Atl means water in ancient Canaanite (in the Levant), and in Basque, so since Atlas was a son of Posidon, and Posidon was Sidon, who was a son of Canaan, you can see why with the seafaring capability the worship of Atlas was memorialized in the ancient mexican sea gods Atlahua and Atlanteotl across the Atlantic. It was a small world back then connected by the highway of the sea, that knowledge to precisely navigate since lost.
