John Meacham, editor of Newsweek magazine, has won a Pulitzer Prize for his biography of Andrew Jackson (the book called American Lion), but Meacham, claiming that Christianity is losing influence in american culture (in his cover story for the April issue of Newsweek), probably did not cite the story for his book about Jackson, who always spoke highly of Christianity (being a believer himself), having told an inquiring young man, with the pastor who recorded the exchange present, that Hell is for those who don’t believe the Bible (Old and New Testaments), indicating that Jackson saw the Bible as the major force in molding spiritually whole individuals and societies, what Meacham indicates is a force losing sway in the american culture, but which is gaining ground on all fronts, including in the scientific disciplines.
Meacham says the Old Testament, particularly the early parts of Genesis, are merely folklore, not corroborated by “good” science, and so therefore should not be considered reliable history, but I would ask Meacham (who is Episcopalian) at what point does the Old Testament account begin to record true history, at the time of Noah, Peleg, Abraham, or Moses, or even later than that, as opined by many liberal scholars such as those whom Meacham undoubtedly consults? And presuming he’d be forced to answer, the follow-up question would be, on what basis did you select that point in Genesis (or Exodus, Chronicles, whatever) as when true history begins to be recorded?
Obviously, any answer by Meacham to that would be unsatisfying intellectually, after all, the history in Genesis is a cohesive unit, with history building upon that which was previously recorded, and I stress recorded (see article #13 at http://GenesisVeracity.com), so Meacham is certainly behind the eight ball on this one, the history acknowledged by Andrew Jackson, the true history of the world (and so, I wonder if Meacham mentioned Jackson was a Christian at all?)
And if Meacham would ever want to do a cover story for Newsweek about the christian home-schooling “phenomenon” in America, and how science enters into their explanations about the Bible, then he could interview me, explaining the Global Flood Model, about how only warmer oceans (by the Fountains of the Great Deep for Noah’s Flood) could have been the engine for the Ice Age, and why therefore bronze age megalithic ruins are now found on the shallow seafloor from the end of the Ice Age, and how the ancients measured and navigated the earth during the Ice Age by the mapping method explained in article #2 at http://IceAgeCivilizations.com, all certain to bring furrows to Meacham’s forehead, but he should do it for the sake of intellectual honesty, which he ostensibly upholds.
